Hair Extensions - Application

From no-commitment clip-ins to individual extensions, the process is as versatile and customizable as your next ‘do. Finding the right extension method will depend on your budget, preference and hair type. Your hair spirit guide (also known as the extension specialist) will help you to match hair density to avoid unnecessary tension on your natural locks.

The Clip-In

If you are looking for a quick fix for a special occasion, try clip-ins. A trained stylist will help you match the color and texture of your hair. All you have to do is snap these barrette-like clips to the roots of your hair for body that just won’t quit.

Looking for something long-term?

Tape Extensions

This involves strips of clear double-sided tape bonded to a weft, and taped to the scalp. This is recommended for most hair types, including fine hair. It costs less than the other permanent methods, and it is less time consuming. You are in and out of the salon in an hour. However, it requires frequent maintenance – which is every six to eight weeks.

Fusion (or Bonded) Hair Extensions

This method involves individual extensions, where single sections of hair that are bonded to the root of the hair. The stylist will attach the keratin bonds using a heat connector clamp. This method can be used for any texture, but it is most suited for medium to thick hair. The application time can take anywhere between five to eight hours, so bring your phone charger to the salon .You’ll need it for all those Snaps you’ll be sending of your new hair.

Weave (or Sew-Ins) Hair Extensions

Here, your natural hair is braided in rows and wefts of hair are woven onto the braids. This is best suited for curly, kinky hair which has enough strength and texture to hold the braid. Lasting for about three months, this can be applied in an hour or two. It is almost the most affordable option.

Real Hair vs. Fake Hair

Fake hair? Beware. For obvious reasons, the experts prefer human hair for the most natural results. Synthetic hair is of a lower quality, and has the tendency to look fake.

The Rolls Royce of extensions is “virgin” hair. This means never-before-processed locks can be styled and cut in a way that lower quality hair cannot be.

Aftercare

Brush and condition them like you would your normal locks – very gently. Style them in the same way. Use a wide-toothed comb to gently untangle any knots. After washing, stay away from that curling iron. Overheating can affect the longevity of your mock mane.

Finally, choose products that are free of sulfates and alcohol. If you have permanent extensions, keep oils away from the roots.

Mane-tenance

Touch base with your stylist once a month. They can assess the condition of your hair, and perform a basic touch-up.
